About

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and offers one of Africa's most iconic views — large elephant herds roaming open savannah with Africa's highest peak rising behind them. The park's shallow seasonal lake and swamps draw enormous concentrations of wildlife year-round, including some of the continent's largest elephant tuskers. With over 600 bird species and easy accessibility from Nairobi, Amboseli is ideal for both first-time visitors and photographers.

Our Insider Tips

Kilimanjaro is clearest at dawn. Clouds build over the summit through the morning. Be in position for elephant-and-Kilimanjaro photographs before 9am.

Dry season brings the elephants in. In the dry season enormous elephant herds converge on the swamps and are extraordinarily accessible, often approaching vehicles with complete indifference.

Combine with Tsavo for a circuit. Amboseli, Tsavo West, and Tsavo East can be done on a well-organised circuit — staying 2 nights in each gives excellent variety.
