Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls — known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, 'the smoke that thunders' — is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the world's largest waterfall by combined width and height. Straddling the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the falls stretch 1,708 metres wide and plunge 108 metres, generating a roar heard 40 kilometres away and a permanent column of spray visible from miles away. The surrounding national parks support exceptional big game, and the Victoria Falls town is a hub for adventure activities from white-water rafting to bungee jumping.
Attractions & Wildlife
Main Falls Viewpoint
The Zimbabwe side offers the most complete frontal view of the falls — 16 viewing points along a rainforest path deliver increasingly dramatic perspectives, with constant spray soaking visitors.
Devil's Pool
On the Zambian side, at low water (Aug–Jan), the incredible natural infinity pool at the very lip of the falls allows brave swimmers to peer over the edge into the gorge.
White Water Rafting
The Zambezi River below the falls offers Grade 5 white water rafting on one of the world's greatest rafting routes — over 23 rapids through a dramatic 75-kilometre gorge.
Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi
Upper Zambezi sunset cruises glide through hippo-filled channels with elephants on the banks and Africa's most vivid sunsets reflecting on the water.
Bungee Jumping off the Bridge
The Victoria Falls Bridge offers one of the world's most spectacular bungee jumps — 111 metres over the raging Batoka Gorge with the falls in full view.
Our Insider Tips
Visit the Zimbabwe side for the best views. The Zimbabwe side provides the most dramatic and complete panoramic view of the falls. The Zambia side is better for Devil's Pool and the Knife Edge Bridge.
Full moon nights are extraordinary. A lunar rainbow forms in the spray of the falls on full moon nights — a rare natural phenomenon. The falls are open for night visits around the full moon.
Low water reveals more, high water overwhelms. Mar–May floods the gorge with maximum volume and spray. Aug–Jan gives lower water but allows Devil's Pool and better views into the gorge below.
